Abstract

This study investigated the perspectives of teachers in regional and remote Western Australia on the design and effectiveness of an online teacher professional learning (OTPL) course that aimed to improve their knowledge and skills in improving student engagement. Teachers who may otherwise have limited opportunities to access effective teacher professional learning can be supported through effective OTPL. Participants reported they had enhanced their knowledge, skills and practice through the OTPL, and four main themes were identified through the data analysis process. The themes of autonomy, competence, refinement of practice and connectedness were important OTPL design features.
