There has not been any major change in gender occupational segregation in recentyears in Australia. Theanalyses presented in this paper, using data from the1996Census of Population and Housing, suggest that this occupational segregationstems more from gender differences in entrv-teuet occupations than from genderdifferences in cccupational mobility. Whether this is good or bad is tille/ear, asimposing themale occupational distribution all females will disadvantage themintermsof earnings.
