N2 - The emotional disorders, which include depression and anxiety, are a common and impairing group of disorders characterized by elevated negative affectivity. Research has demonstrated shared features and etiologies across these disorders, leading to suggested refinements in diagnostic systems and treatments. The present article summarizes the history, taxonomy, etiology, assessment, and treatment of emotional disorders.
