Abstract

This research study explored the community music activity of adult music ensembles in Perth, Western Australia as a phenomenon of community music practice. The study examined the nature of adult music ensembles to better understand the connection between the musical identities of adults and the culture of the music groups they join. Data revealed that positive musical experiences foster musical engagement and contribute to the growth of musical identities. The intersection between music relationships, lifelong learning and wellbeing, stressed the importance of community music activity for adult members whose lives are enriched by their participation in adult music ensembles.
