More Efficient Methods in Response Based Analysis of Floating Systems under Extreme Environmental Conditions

Abstract

Response based analysis (RBA) is a probabilistic method for identifying the extreme N-year return period responses and design metocean (DMC) conditions for floating systems. The RBA method is more time-consuming than the traditional method, which is based on the N-year metocean conditions. In this research, the iterative RBA methodology is developed for the FPSO mooring system, which reduces the computational efforts by combining the structural and statistical analyses into a single process. A new methodology is also developed to identify the DMC associated with N-year response by characterizing the tropical cyclones based on the mooring response.
