Abstract

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic incurable disease affecting approximately 2% of the community. Effective treatment options are available, which collectively fall under the category of disease modifying antirheumatic drugs, or DMARDs. The aim of this study was to understand patient sentiment towards DMARDs, as expressed on social media. This was done using a big data analytic technique known as Sentiment Analysis. The results showed that public opinion on social media is generally positive about DMARDs, with efficacy and side effects being the primary drivers of this sentiment.
