Abstract
Japan, Australia and Germany are examples for distinct approaches to immigration and resulting respective public discourses characterised by specific topics of debate. This thesis is interested in finding out how migration-related topics that are unique to each of the three countries, have been covered in leading newspapers’ editorials over the past three decades.
Through analysis of selected leading articles from the Yomiuri Shimbun’s English-language newspaper Japan News (Daily Yomiuri) as well as the Sydney Morning Herald and Süddeutsche Zeitung in relation to migration themes, this thesis provides an interpretation as to their sentiments and reasoning regarding immigration.
