Abstract
This study investigated the effects of hydrogen peroxide on the mechanics of protein turnover in C2C12 myotubes. The myotubes were treated with hydrogen peroxide modulating enzymes, catalase and glucose oxidase. Changes were observed in protein levels and protein turnover and the eiF2a pathway was found to be involved in these changes. A 2 tag method for thiol oxidation measurement was adapted to label the C2C12 cultures and was observed for the first time. Further studies could focus on the other possible protein target sites affected by oxidative stress in order to better understand muscle wasting Induced by oxidative stress.
