Long-term length stability and search for excess noise in multi-stage cantilever spring vibration isolators

    Abstract

    We report long-term observations of inelastic creep in carbon steel cantilever spring vibration isolators for laser interferometer gravitational wave detectors. Creep rates are shown to be similar to 0.23 mu m per stage per day. Horizontal burst noise generation at the level of similar to 3 X 10(-18) m/root HZ is shown to be absent.
