title = "Investigating Information Integration as a Predictor of the Continued Influence of Misinformation: Testing a Neurocognitive Hypothesis",
abstract = "Misinformation often continues to influence memory and reasoning even after clear and credibleretractions. This is known as the continued influence effect. Dominant theoretical models of the CIEhave suggested it arises from a failure of memory retrieval, however, recent neuroimaging researchimplicated a failure in information integration and memory updating. The current thesis investigatedfactors that can be assumed to help or hinder information integration and how this may influence theCIE. The results of this thesis contribute to theoretical conceptualisations regarding memoryintegration and updating, and practical implications for attempts to counter misinformation.",
