Introduction: Peripheral centralities: The lost and past of the urbanity of the suburbs

Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference paper › Foreword/postscript › peer-review

Abstract

This chapter defines the term peripheral centralities as one that can speak to concrete instances of historic designs on the urban periphery and the abstract sense of how urban theory can be renewed by giving greater attention to the urban periphery. The chapter highlights the way in which past and lost examples of centring the urban periphery provided alternatives to the business as usual of the time and glimpses of suburban futures different from those of today.
