Abstract
Intercultural development studies in foreign language education pay little attention to less commonly taught languages. In the domain of interculturality in teaching and learning Thai as a foreign language, explanatory theory is almost non-existent. This qualitative collective case study investigated teachers' perspectives and practices for developing intercultural competence in learners of Thai as a foreign language at a Singapore university. Modified grounded theory and analysis of in-depth semi-structured interviews generated an explanatory theory and associated propositions, thus contributing to existing knowledge and theory on the acquisition and development of intercultural competence in learners of foreign languages less commonly taught.
