    Abstract

Copyright © 2015 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE). This paper describes an investigation of stiffened and unstiffened caisson penetration in non-homogeneous clay through large deformation finite element (LDFE) analyses. The reported field data from case histories and measured data from centrifuge model tests are also summarized. The discrepancy of the installation mechanisms between stiffened and unstiffened caissons is highlighted. Conventional shearing resistance model is calibrated against the summarized data.
