Abstract

This workshop will provide an insight into Management and Leadership techniques which can assist with professional growth so you are equipped to face the challenges to conquer “Mount Doom”. The “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” offer great examples of leadership. They also provide us with effective teamwork skills when faced with different personality types and different challenges and how to cooperate in times of change.

The session will highlight:
* attributes employers seek in those they appoint to senior positions;
* transition into a management role.
* leading from within your team
* skills transfer and ways to adapt from one job to another

Libraries are facing a time of budget cuts, restructures and recruitment freezes.

At Murdoch University and UWA we have had to adjust the way we provide some of our services, and look at streamlining our processes to ensure we maintain a high level of service to our university community. In times of uncertainty and in times of change, it is essential that strong leadership be demonstrated, that staff continue to stay focused on services offered to clients.

Professional development in leadership and management, although available, has become a sort after talisman, with scarce places, therefore evoking competition.
