Abstract

This study provides intimate and lively accounts of five Australian antifascist campaigns between 1970 and 2016. Each campaign has a distinctive political backdrop, ranging from the Vietnam War to the War on Terror. Different far-right, fascist or Nazi antagonists are confronted by various constellations of antifascist actors. The focus of this study is militant antifascism’s strategies, tactics, and ideologies. The relationship between militant antifascism and the Australian state is considered in detail. Although the focus is on Australian antifascism, the study also examines several transnational dimensions to the campaigns. The research examines how earlier Australian antifascist campaigns impact later ones.
