Abstract
We assessed cardiac sympathetic activity in hypertensive patients with and without evidence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Cardiac norepinephrine release was significantly higher in patients with LVH. Left ventricular mass index correlated with cardiac norepinephrine release in all subjects, indicating that increased cardiac sympathetic activity contributes to the development of LVH.
