Abstract

Howard Taylor is recognised as one of Australia's most significant artists of the 20th century. The Kerry Stokes Collection has outstanding examples of the artist's oeuvre produced between 1950 and 2001. This book addresses the thirty works in the collection in fifteen essays, primarily on individual works or thematically linked groups, to explore the breadth of Howard Taylor's technique, subject matter, and his contribution to the representation of the Australian landscape as well as the intensity of his continual pursuit of pure form with colour.
