Abstract
This study is contextualised within the long-term interest and debate into the nature of the inter-relationship between a universities research and education roles. The specific study focus are claims of the benefits of integrating research into teaching in support of all students’ educational outcomes.
Scholarly research developed alongside these debates, have identified as a key concern the difficulty of agreeing on and, hence achieving the intended learning aims and educational benefits associated with integrating research within teaching practice. This difficulty has been attributed to the complexity of both personal and social factors that can influence perspectives on ‘why’ links with research are considered beneficial to student learning.
