Abstract

AI-based tools are increasingly being used by developers for ISD process activities, enhancing the ability to automate development tasks and impacting various ISD outcomes and values. While AI is beneficial in ISD, it also presents tensions that arise between moral (i.e., ethical values such as transparency and control) and non-moral values (e.g., performance and quality). Since the depth of understanding remains limited, by drawing on the theory of social action, this research seeks to understand how AI use impacts ISD values and outcomes and the value tensions that may arise. This study adopts a netnography methodology, a qualitative approach using online data and analysis based on the topic modelling. The preliminary findings reveal a transformative impact on the existing ISD process activities and a strong presence of ethical concerns. The outcomes of this research will help ISD decision-makers and policymakers create a more responsible environment for AI use.
