Homelessness in culturally and linguistically diverse populations: Research challenges

Research output: Contribution to specialist publicationArticle in specialist publication

Abstract

People from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds comprise an increasing proportion of Australia's population. As partial indicators of this, in 2012, over 200 languages other than English were spoken in family homes across Australia, and Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data show that over a quarter (28.5 per cent) of people living in Australia were born overseas. Despite this, it is difficult to get a handle on the number of people from a CaLD background experiencing homelessness and to understand their needs and the appropriate service responses to those needs.
