Abstract
There are a rising number of resettled adolescent refugees globally, however knowledge regarding their specific healthcare needs remain scarce. This thesis investigates the social, medical and psychological healthcare needs of adolescent refugees resettling in Western Australia through the use of standardised comprehensive multidisciplinary health assessments.
The results demonstrate multiple adversities, a broad range of socioeconomic vulnerabilities and complex medical and psychological issues, including health risk behaviours among the cohort. Despite this, adolescents report reasonable psychosocial adjustment during early resettlement. The findings highlight the need for targeted post-arrival health screening guidelines, national policies and age-appropriate healthcare services for all resettling adolescent refugees.
