Abstract

Sclerotinia rot is a devastating fungal disease of canola worldwide. Finding effective host resistance offers the only fully cost-effective and long-term reliable solution for its management. In determining the inheritance patterns of resistance within different canola breeding populations and across the different plant growth stages, common and contrasting resistances were highlighted across cotyledons, leaves and stems. These findings will foster more rapid selection for multiple plant traits associated with resistance to this disease. This will enable breeders to make decisive and critical choices towards selecting and developing new canola cultivars and possibly even directly deploying some of these resistances.
