Abstract
Academic research is intertwined with other forms of colonialism and injustice. The process of decolonising linguistics entails hearing decolonial stories to develop new design methods that honour different ways of being and doing in the world. In this contribution, we introduce two aspects of our participatory model which have allowed us to re-think the discipline of linguistics as a more inclusive and socially just enterprise. To move closer towards decolonisation, we propose to hear the voices of those rarely featured in linguistic research and to share our knowledge in the creation of collaborative projects that engage First Nations communities meaningfully and sustainably.
