Abstract
This FACTBase focuses on occupation type as an indicator of a certain level of worker qualification or set of skills. Occupation type data was extracted from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) 2011 Census of Population and Housing using TableBuilder. An occupation journey-to-work matrix was constructed by summing local government areas (LGAs) according to Perth and [email protected] million subregional boundaries (WAPC, 2015). The next sections identify sub-regional patterns of worker residence, job location and commuting by occupation type. It finds that job-skills matching requires increasing the quality of employment opportunities
in outer metropolitan subregions rather than absolute and undiscerning increases in job growth.
