    Abstract

The fidelity of a coherent link between opticaland microwave frequencies is largely determined by noiseprocesses in a mode-locked femtosecond laser. This workpresents an experimental study of the noise properties of aTi:sapphire femtosecond laser. It includes measurements ofpulse repetition rate fluctuations and shot noise exhibitedby the Ti:sapphire femtosecond laser. Based on the resultsof noise measurements, the fractional frequency stability ofa microwave signal produced by the femtosecond laser hasbeen evaluated.
