Abstract

This thesis delivers new experimental data to help test and improve existing predictive models for interfacial tension and advance our understanding of cryogenic solids blockage mechanisms in the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG). New high pressure VLE and interfacial tension data for ternary hydrocarbon mixtures, particularly near the cricondenbar and critical point are reported over a wide range of temperatures that should help improve the models of LNG scrub columns. In addition, new MRI images of hydrocarbon solids forming in model systems are presented and analysed to guide further research in this area of industrial importance.
