Abstract

This project developed a clinic-based data collection process to assess general practitioner-led palliative care in Australia. The data collection process was implemented with 63 general practitioners (GPs) from three Australian states between September 2018 and August 2019. The central role of GPs in providing palliative care was demonstrated. The research highlighted the challenges of complex symptom management, coordination of care, end-of-life communications and planning for death. We proposed a comprehensive approach to supporting GPs to support their provision of this care.
