Abstract
Unidentified human remains are subject to forensic anthropological assessment to facilitate evidence towards achieving a positive identification. An accurate quantitated estimation of skeletal sex is imperative not only as part of the identification process, but in allowing application of sex-specific approaches for estimating other biological attributes (e.g., age, ancestry and stature). The objective here is to consider the approaches available to the forensic anthropologist for the estimation of skeletal sex, including critical evaluation of professional practice relative to appropriate method selection. The main aim is to provide exposure to the methods and their inherent advantages and limitations.
