Abstract

This thesis explores the relationship between media outlets and the Colombian conflict. It offers two studies employing theoretical and empirical techniques to shed light on how media molds conflict, with a third study that digs into the mechanisms that drive these behaviors.

These studies contribute not only to our understanding of how the FARC and the Colombian conflict respond to media attention, but to our understanding of conflict dynamics. It is important to recognize that information and the media attention are not detached from ongoing conflicts. Acknowledging its effects is the first step towards an effective usage of these channels.
