Abstract
This thesis comprises three studies investigating factors influencing government and presidential approval. The first two studies find that one-way CT, like radio and television, reduces the probability of civil conflict and government approval, while two-way CT, such as cell phones and the internet, acts contrary to one-way CT. The third study focuses on US soldier deaths during the Iraq War (2003-2006), revealing their influence on President Bush's approval ratings. This research contributes to understanding CT's role in civil conflict and political attitudes and the impact of soldier deaths on presidential approval.
