Miss Fortune X is the opening track on Ephemeral Rivers, the first portrait CD of Hope’s chamber works. Hope is one of the most significant composers of her generation: a leading figure in international contemporary music, and new formats for musical notation. This recording places Hope and her regular collaborators on this recording amongst some of the leading international artists by featuring on this Swiss label: John Cage, Morton Feldman, Karlheinz Stockhausen for example.
This recording followed public performances of Miss Fortune X by Decibel New Music in 2013 and 2014, ahead of studio recording at Soundfield Studio in 2014. Artistic research included explorations in interpretation of digital graphic notation using the Decibel ScorePlayer and development of performance practices using double bass bows in order to elicit a range of harmonics from the cymbals. This took place in the form of workshops and rehearsals with the composer and ensemble at the WA Academy of Performing Arts.
