Abstract

Elegant Sufficiency is a brass band contest march, written in homage to the great band director William Rimmer, who is best known today for his marches. In the early part of the twentieth century, Rimmer’s bands won every major contest in the UK. A very fine cornet player himself, his marches always feature strong cornet parts, and rich harmonies, and active bass lines. This march follows in that tradition; a strong melodic intent, and dark harmonies. Almost every section faces technical challenges, but the melody remains at the forefront throughout.
