    Abstract

This paper describes the results from large deformation FE (LDFE) analysis undertaken to provide insight into the influence of soil stiffness, or rigidity index, on cone penetration resistance in three-layer soft-stiff-soft clays. A range of soil stiffnesses were selected encompassing practical interest. A correction factor is proposed for interpreting the actual undrained shear strength of the interbedded stiff layer. The results can assist foundation design in offshore practice.
