A 26-year-old woman with a headache was referred for an MRI of the brain. A bilobulated ring-enhancing subcortical lesion with surrounding edema was observed in the posterior aspect of the left frontal lobe. The presumptive diagnosis of neurocysticercosis was confirmed histopathologically after resection of the lesion. Neurocysticercosis is a parasitic infection caused by the larval form of the tapeworm Taenia solium in the central nervous system. The CT and MRI findings in neurocysticercosis depend on the developmental stage of the parasite. MRI plays an important role in characterizing the lesion in terms of location and staging.
