Abstract

Although there is a consensus on the positive relationship between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and economic growth, the relationship between FDI and food security is less clear. We use meta-analysis to combine the results of 24 primary studies to generate an overall estimate of the impact of FDI on food security. We find no evidence of publication bias and the overall pooled estimate of the impact is not significantly different from zero. Subgroup analysis, however, shows negative impact on food security when FDI is treated as a stock variable compared to when it is treated as a flow variable.
