Abstract

Digit Symbol has been shown to have a relatively lower g loading than other Wechsler subtests. As an attempt to increase its factorial validity, an adaptation of Digit Symbol (Digit Symbol Rotation) was created by combining features of Digit Symbol and the Mental Rotations Test. A Principal Component Analysis estimated Digit Symbol's g loading to be .29. In contrast, Digit Symbol Rotation's g loading was estimated at .63. Thus, researchers are presented with a test that has more factorial validity than Digit Symbol but remains equally easy to administer and score.
