Abstract

In this study, an instrument for measuring values, the Students’ School-Related Values Instrument (SSRVI), was developed and validated. The SSRVI focuses on the construct of school-related values as stipulated in the Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) curriculum for Singapore schools. Incorporating scholarly reviews on the structure and nature of values by Schwartz, and Kohlberg’s empirical work on moral values, the SSRVI has the potential to assess a student’s progress in learning values. More than 1900 students from a faith-based school in Singapore participated in the validation study on the SSRVI. Results all affirmed the sound psychometric properties of the instrument.
