Abstract

The current thesis sought to develop and validate a measure of paediatric cognitive reserve based on a residual index approach. Chapter 1 reviews relevant literature on the theory of cognitive reserve, including current paediatric literature. Chapter 2 is an empirical study that aimed to operationalise the residual index, while Chapter 3 attempted to optimise it for a neurodiverse paediatric cohort. With Chapter 3 demonstrating preliminary evidence of validity for the CR index, Chapter 4 aimed to elucidate its biological and environmental predictors. The final chapter of the thesis (Chapter 5)provides a general discussion of the findings from Chapters 2-4.
