Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a heterogeneous disease with a substantial burden for patients, families, and the healthcare system. Australia seemed to have the highest RA prevalence and severity is essential to plan prevention, treatment, and management strategies. The WA Rheumatic Disease Epidemiological Registry was used to investigate the clinical epidemiology of RA in WA. The thesis concluded that RA prevalence in WA was 0.34%?0.36%, and demonstrated a decline in RA hospitalisations, comorbidity, and mortality but an increase in biological therapy utilitsation costs.
