Abstract
Aim: To identify and explore the determinants of mental health service access and continued use by adolescents in Perth, Western Australia.
Methods : A sequential mixed methods approach was employed and comprised three phases.
Results : Phase 1; three main principles were identified by mental health professionals as underpinning optimal service provision for adolescents. Phase 2 highlighted the top barriers to accessing a mental health service for adolescents. Phase 3 identified key factors influencing adolescent access and engagement to mental health services.
Conclusion : The results have created a richer understanding of the determinants of mental health service access and use by adolescents.
