Abstract

Distinguished percussionist Jacques Delécluse (1933-2015) significantly impacted the global percussion community, particularly with his 1964 snare drum étude book, “Douze Études pourCaisse-Claire.” Étude Nine is particularly notable, often requested in orchestral auditions. This research examines the intricacies of Étude Nine, gathering insights, exercises, and practice strategies from interviews with Australian orchestral percussionists. It serves both as a scholarly compilation of professional perspectives and a pedagogical guide for emerging percussionists. The findings aim to enrich learning and performance processes associated with Étude Nine, contributing to percussion pedagogy and enhancing appreciation for Delécluse's artistry in snare drum repertoire
