Abstract

Dairy production has been part of the Western Australian agricultural scene since early settlement but has never grown beyond supplying much more than the needs of the state’s own population. Even today, the state produces under 400 million litres of milk, or 4 per cent of the total Australian production, over half of which is consumed as fresh, whole milk.
