Abstract
This research investigated the potential of suction caisson as anchoring system for floating offshore renewable energy devices in shallow water, where granular seabed are predominant. Centrifuge modelling was performed to investigate the response of suction anchors in sand under unidirectional cyclic loading, which response is still poorly understood. Parameters investigated included mean and peak cyclic tension, mooring conditions and caisson geometry. Results showed substantial increases in the post-cyclic soil strength and stiffness due to densification of the soil, which magnitude depends on the initial state of the soil.
