Abstract

The failure of dental treatment in the primary setting may elevate rate of oral health-related hospitalisation (OHRH). This thesis aimed to provide a national presentation of OHRH in Australia over twenty years. The study demonstrates the impact of OHRH on health system in Australia. Over a twenty-year period, the overall separation rate of OHRH has a persistent increase in Australia with a considerable variation in respect to age and gender. Hospitalisation data can be an indication of prevalence of conditions in the community, functioning of the non-hospital care system, or use of the hospital system in response to changing needs.
