Abstract

The full-length CD “Crazy Logic” was recorded with assistance from the Australian Government through the Australia Council and released by reedmusi©.com in late 2006, brings together previously unrecorded works for saxophone(s) and piano by four of Australia’s leading composers (Matthew Orlovich, Brenton Broadstock, Andrián Pertout and Stuart Greenbaum) and two of New Zealand’s leading composers (Philip Norman and Maria Grenfell). The project also included the recording of a second CD also released by reedmusi©.com entitled “Hinterland” which included a selection of the minor, but still exceptional-quality works, composed by these and other composers. All these works were a result of the commissioning and collaborative project undertaken by “rompduo” since 1992 which fostered a more sophisticated understanding of the technical and musical capabilities of this pairing of instruments for a generation of Australian artists. These two CD’s represent the first recordings available of their finest works for saxophone and piano.
