Abstract
Volume 9 of the 'Corpus of Voltaire's Marginal Notes' is the final volume in this important scholarly edition which presents the entirety of the annotations made by Voltaire in the margins of the books in his personal library, which has been conserved since his death in St Petersburg, and is now housed in the National Library of Russia. This particular volume contains the notes and markers inspired by a diverse group of authors, including Baruch Spinoza, Laurence Sterne, Tacitus, de Thou, Titon du Tillet, Matthew Tindal, John Toland , Jacob Vernet, Horace Walpole and Thomas Warburton.
An exhaustive critical apparatus explains how Voltaire's reading influenced his own thought and writings, and this volume, which is generously illustrated, also includes an index of the Voltaire texts mentioned in the editorial notes.
The volumes on Voltaire's marginal notes form part of the larger scholarly edition of the 'Œuvres complètes de Voltaire' ('Complete Works of Voltaire'). Volume 9A-9B of the marginal notes takes its place as Volume 144A-144B of the 'Œuvres complètes de Voltaire'.
