Abstract

A useful exploration of the impact on student learning of incorporating guest lecturers into course delivery. The proposed relevance and usefulness discourse framework could be developed into a valuable resource for other courses and disciplines.

The article focuses upon guest lecturers illustrating the application of theory to professional practice, and breaking up the ‘monotony’ of having a single academic as the expert in a course. However, a basic design principle that should be highlighted is that guest speakers should be chosen/guided to reinforce the learning outcomes that are mapped to key graduate capabilities valued in industry/professions.
