Abstract

We describe the process of constructing the input catalogue for the Wide Area VISTA Extragalactic Survey (WAVES). We ingest the recent processed imaging data and define a core optical and near-IR catalogue. We present a revised measurement of the energy output of the optical extra-galactic background light (EBL) based on the contribution of resolved galaxies to the integrated galaxy light (IGL) from discrete systems. The optical cosmic background radiation encodes all light in the optical window that emanates from starlight and presents a wealth of information about the history of the cosmic star formation.
