Abstract
The effectiveness of controlling Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly) Ceratitis capitata in Western Australia can be jeopardised by a lack of cooperation among growers and the general public and amongst each of these groups. This research, based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour, analyses the factors reducing an individual's intention to control fruit fly on their property. The results found that knowledge plays a significant role in the intention to control Medfly. Communicating scientific information to educate people on fruit fly biology can increase participation of the entire community in Area Wide Management of Medfly.
