Abstract

Isomeric hydrido-vinylidene and -alkyne complexes Fe2Ir(μ-H)(μ3-X)(CO)8(PPh3) (X CCHPh, HC2Ph) were obtained from Fe2Ir(μ3-C2Ph)(CO)8(PPh3) and H2 or H-/H+. The X-ray structure of the vinyldene complex is reported. Cluster complexes containing gold, iron and iridium were obtained from AuCl(PPh3) or [O{Au(PPh3)}3]+ and anionic species prepared from Fe2Ir(μ3-C2Ph)(CO)8(PPh3). The mono-gold specids AuFe2Ir(μ3-HC2Ph)(CO)8(PPh3)2 and the tri-gold cluster Au3Fe2Ir(C2HPh)-(CO)7 (PPh3)4 were identified spectroscopically, whereas the digold complex Au2Fe2Ir(μ4-C2Ph)-(CO)7(PPh3)3 was shown crystallographically to have an unusual structure in which one of the gold atoms bridges the acetylide Cα and the Ir atom. The rhodium analogue was also obtained.
